Hey, i ordered my Dell 1520 notebook about 6 days ago and it came with Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007. I was wondering if anyone has used this before and can tell me how good it is, considering university is starting soon.

if you've used ms office before, it shouldn't be any different., except for the layout.
also old ms office files aren't compatible with this, make sure you install the ms office compatibility pack which you can download from microsoft's website -
No, old files are fully compatible <_<
-
I think chrisL2 meant that files created in Office 2007's new native XML format aren't compatible with previous versions of Office without the compatibility pack. Office 2007 can save in Office 97-2002 formats, though.

Home and student is good, but it unfortunately doesn't include outlook. I use two mobile phones (one is mine the other is company and is not meant for pesonal use, and it gets a lot of wrong numbers anyway). and the easiest way to keep the information on each synced is through outlook. The Live! Mail calender doesn't work.

It does have a notebook maker (One Note) which would be great for taking and organizing school notes. However, you would have to spend $99 to purchase Outlook separately.
-
Yeah, not having Outlook killed it for me. However, the license allows you to install it on up to 3 different machines, which is especially nice if you have a laptop and a desktop.
Does your university have deals with certain software vendors? I know I can get a full version of Office 2007 Pro at my school for $99CAD. -
what school are u at :|
-
UWaterloo. We're practically owned by Microsoft, sooo.....

I've been using the PRO version on my desktop for a long time and it is very much like the previous versions but the only thing is that the user interfaces have been changed a lot... Also lot of new templates bundled too
