Dell 1520 with Intel X3100 GMA

Has anyone tried some games with this yet at low levels on Vista with the new Hardware T&L drivers? The reason I ask is because I ordered 2 inspirons from Dell for my wife and I.. A pink one and a black one. The pink has only the x3100 w/1.5mhz and mine has the 8600 gt w/2.0mhz. I was able to utilize my epp discount as well as the discount for using the dpc. I then got the 350 coupon and whallah! A pretty decent laptop for under a thousand bucks... 1050 after tax, title and license. Then my wifes was another 820 after epp and dpc discount. Anyway.. The bottom line is that I am feeling guilty that she may not be able to play any games with the x3100. In the past we have played SWAT4 and Dungeon Siege 2. Do you guys have any benchmarks with this card? Can you overclock the x3100? I think stock it is at 400mhz. I know it is integrated but I don't want to cancel her order and start over... As it stands the shipping day on the laptops is 7/19. If I change or cancel her order it will probably be September... Thanks for your time and opinions...

Also.. what type of speakers do the inspirons have? I hope they are good!!!! Do they have subwoofers like the older models?

it will not run swat 4 well and its pretty pointless to overclock it

it is all shared memory which is much slower than dedicated

the intel gma have a history of being TERRIBLE BOTTOM BARREL gpus.

i doubt she will be able to play at native resolution on most fps on any game in the last 2 years.


the speakers on the inspirions are pretty good

 

my igp radeon 345m runs ut2004 great (low-low/mid settings)! im not sure if the GMA x3100 would be better than that. not sure if this info helps any, either. just some info to throw in.

You can't overclock it.

It should handle anything from 2-3 years ago just fine. The Source engine (Half-Life 2) is about the newest it can handle.

 

Can anyone go into Details on the Ispiron Speakers? Is it just 2 or does it include a sub? How many watts are they? How do they sound? Are they good enough to say play your favorite games without headphones?

x3100 is faster than ATI Radeon x1150. So you have a chance to run some less demanding games with the x3100.

 

There is no sub woofer there. Someone in the forums mentioned that the speakers sound like a tin can sound. The speakers are not facing the user directly. They are placed on the bottom (just above the base).

 

Does anyone has PC with X3100 intel graphics card..
If yes.. then what is the base score given to "graphics" and "3D Gaming" by Windows ...(what is the individual rating given to them.??)

I have nVIDIA 7150M ... and VISTA rate the 3D gaming base score of 2.6 and Graphics of 3.2

So I want to compare both graphic cards

 

integrated is better than your 7150.

 

This thread should give you an idea about general gaming performance. More or less similar to midrange dedicated cards came out couple of years ago (not too bad for an Integrated card).

3.5 for 3D Gaming with X3100.
