I'm on the verge of purchasing a 1520 and I've seen the comparison of the Dell and HP dv6500. In there, the reviewer showed a dell remote that fit into a slot in the 1520. I tried finding this remote while configuring the 1520 but I couldnt find it anywhere. I'm ordering bluetooth with my notebook so thats not a problem. Does anyone know if the remote is standard, an option, or even available to buy with the 1520? Thanks for the help!

Depends, in Canada there is a standard remote that is a no-charge option. I don't think it's available in the US.

I was under the impression it was included by looking at the reviewer on here and what he said.

After reading and watching Andrew's review, I checked my order confirmation sheet and found the remote listed there. I didn't know about it before hand; quite a nice surprise. I didn't select it as an option, unless it somehow was included with one of the options I chose (but I doubt this as it wasn't listed on my options when purchasing either). So yes, I think it's standard.

I'm 99% sure in the U.S. it's a default option you get for free, Dell told us as much during a product briefing.

So do all the 1520's have the remote control? even the non-USA models? I bought it from the Dell NZ website.

I doubt we'll get a remote...why doesn't it say in the invoice after ordering? Does ANYBODY see any mention of a remote whatsoever on their order? I mean...even the creative earbuds weren't mentioned on the website but they got included by default and actually showed up on the invoice, no such indication though for the remote. Please, someone contradict me as that would actually be good.

I ordered a Inspiron 1721. First I ordered a 1521 last week and cancelled it. I called and asked the rep about the remote in the card slot, and that dell.ca has it right on their order form, but US does not. She said she does not believe that it's a US option, so my reply was "Great, so first free healthcare, NOW they get a REMOTE FOR THEIR LAPTOP TOO?!?" we shared a laugh, it was just a joke (for you sensitive candies<3) and I went on to get my 1721 with NO remote.

Yeah I just talked to a Dell CSR....he said remote's not included (for the US at least). Sux big time but oh well...does anybody know if I can somehow use a Universal Remote to work with the IR port on the Inspiron?

in the uk it is not a default option to get it in the express card slot, you have to ask for it to get it although it is free.

I just called up dell and asked about the remote...its an optional choice, but appears nowhere on the site...very weird (and unfair).

But the CSR added it to my order for free!!

I live in Australia btw...might be different for the US...but im sure its worht a try.

Yes the U.S can get the remote, but not for free (unless you're lucky and get a nice agent who will add it to your order at no charge) You can find it on the Del sitel under the accessories tab, or do a search for a Interlink expresscard remote.

Just to throw it out there, on page 55 of the 1420 manual it gives detailed directions on an IR expresscard remote (not the $50 bluetooth remote) but I can't find any mention of it in the 1520 or 1720 manuals. *prays that my 1420 comes with it*

The 1520 vs. 6500t review shows the remote included and it is not the one on the accessories tab pictured. Therefore, I imagine it might be included. Some people have their's already and you could ask them (forget their screen names though).

If anyone actually receives their 1520 with the remote (without requesting it) please post as it is definitely not included if you don't ask about it. Mine was ordered through EPP.

Called and asked today ... she said she couldn't see it on the order anywhere.

however, they expedited my shipping to overnight (~80 dollar value) and gave me a 35 dollar coupon to help purchase my own (50 dollars..).

Will the remote that Dell sells not fit the ExpressCard slot as is described in the online Dell reviews? The reviewers describe it as being about 1/4" too long to fit in perfectly flush with the side of the system. Does that still apply to the 1420... does anyone know at this point?

I think the $50 remote is like, full size. It's looking to me like ONLY other countries are getting offers for that mini remote, we have to get some other kind of remote for $50.

A dell rep gave me upgraded shipping to next day air for free and said they'd personally call me with the tracking numbers as well as after I receive the laptop on Monday to see if I'm satisfied.

I guess I now know exactly what I'm going to complain about on Monday... ;)

So much for "no US remote for free" considering my rep online just said this:

"I am going to send you this item free of charge as a gesture "Remote Control Kit for Media Center Edition". This item is included free in some orders, however it was not in your order."

I said, im tired of the reviews with a remote, and I don't have one. Bam, ordered, heres an order #.

Keep trying, don't give up. It only took me two hours and talking to about ten different reps to get it.

Such a big company... and can't include a free remote... :) Loosing reputation. The HP gives it for free AFAIK.

Is this the option for the dell remote that fits in the Express Card slot? (Non-Bluetooth one)

Just as an FYI... here again, your Rep is suggesting you order Dell Part# A0691231, which is Bluetooth, NOT IR.

This has been a common mistake being made as Cust Service doesn't have the true IR remote part numbers readily available to them- something that has caused countless hours of wasted time and frustration for those of us who have had a 1520 / 1720 shipped without an IR remote.

I'm STILL trying to get mine. So far, it looks like Critic has got farthest in getting an actual order in for this elusive prized possession-
