Hi,
Someone in my household managed to break the power of my 1520 laptop. I am guessing that they dropped it (I am not sure).
The back of the laptop (where the power plug goes) is supposed to have a black circle (with 5 small holes) within the plug however on my laptop its broken off & I can see the exposed coper wires.
What do I need to replace that? A new motherboard? A new bottom of the base of the notebook?
Thanks,
Rich

xps 1530.

It looks like the motherboard is broken (or the power is part of the mobo). How much is a replacement mobo?
-
if you verified motherboard cracked/broke, more than likely my joke is not a joke anymore. you're probably better off buying a new laptop because mobo replacements are expensive.

It's all fun and games until someone takes you seriously and it becomes even funnier.

Your looking around 150 on ebay.

Hi RichTJ99,
I would suggest purchasing the motherboard through Dell, as you will have a warranty. If you purchase through ebay, or another third party provider, Dell will not be able to provide warranty.

@Pukemon - If you didn't know the E1520 is actually a notebook manufactured by dell, just click on the 1520 link in his post
And I would suggest buying a new motherboard as Gabe said. Dell may be able to walk you through how to install it on the phone which will keep your warranty intact. -
Pukemon knew that -- he was telling him that the solution was to buy an XPS M1530. It was a joke post. (That's the reason for the smiley and the later statement that he had been joking.)

I can bet dell will charge at least double what ebay would do.
Here is the manual. http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/vos1500/en/sm/sysboard.htm#wp1180315 -
This might be a long-shot, but if you're still under warranty and got the complete care warranty, you should be covered for an accident like that.

Could you post pictures?
I find it hard to believe that the mobo is broken(note the jack is connected to the mobo, but it's not part of it)
For instance, you could always buy a replacement jack and install it(soldering may be required):
^ note that's for a 1501, don't know if it works on the 1520(a couple emails asking them wouldn't hurt).
Or you could take it to a local repair shop and ask them if they can fix it without replacing the mobo(this may be expensive just because of labor charges). Another option is to build a custom jack.
Last option - if the mobo is indeed broken - buy a new one on ebay. -
