Well, I called Dell's automated order status system today expecting to hear more of "its in the build stage" BUT, instead that wonderfully horrible word was replaced with boxing! I figure that means they recievedx a shipment of lids, which is what I was told my computer was delayed for. So all those iwht midnight blues, a little hope for you.

When did you order?

Ordered black on Aug 2, but went from production to boxing before testing. damn it.
-
Erm.. they must have had a big shipment of Midnight Blue show up because mine went into boxing this weekend as well (Still in boxing as of today 8/13) and I only ordered mine 8/8/07. I was ready to wait all bummed out for a month too.. hehe.
-
I ordered blue as well on the 8th and im still in production. I was talking online today and they told me by the end of the month. That they still had 9 days left in building.

If the information I've gotten is correct the color, screen & webcam come to the factory as one unit/ part. So depending on your resolution and whether or not you have a webcam you could be waiting. As long as I am understanding it right, that means that there are 8 different parts for each color (see example below). So it really depends on your exact configuration. That may explain why we might see a bunch of people with #2 getting theirs shipped, but those with #1 are still cursing & waiting.
1. Midnight blue, 1280x800, Glossy with webcam
2. Midnight blue, 1280x800, Glossy NO webcam
3. Midnight blue, 1280x800, Anti-Glare with webcam
4. Midnight blue, 1280x800, Anti-Glare NO webcam
5. Midnight blue, 1440x900, Glossy with webcam
6. Midnight blue, 1440x900, Glossy NO webcam
7. Midnight blue, 1680x1050, Glossy with webcam
8. Midnight blue, 1680x1050, Glossy NO webcam
Does this make sense to anyone else? -
Mine would be a #1, ordered 8/8, went into boxing sometime on 8/11 or 8/12, and is still currently in "boxing" today.

#8...ordered on July 18th. Hoping its ships today though. I need it for school by the 16th.
-
What?? Damn, mine's a #1 and is still in the build stage....how did Spliner already go into boxing?? BodyByNotte, that is an excellent idea, it's just that it still makes no sense between me and Spliner and is the same case for other people. Maybe it's the processor or the graphics card, perhaps??
-
#7 ordered 7/19 and in boxing.
finally. -
I too ordered the #7 and its still in production..
;_; -
-
I'm sure you'll be in boxing soon, maybe later today. -

My best guess.. the shipment of lids helped. Normally Dell has systems at my door in less than a week total, if not 1 week. Laptops are a custom build, but so is everything else Dell makes. Because of the shortage I'd say they had all of their suppliers stock them up, the long wait for Midnight Blue lids is likely over for a while, but I see Reds and Blacks starting to wait.
I just checked about 1pm CST, still in boxing. ;(
My usual luck is that it will ship tomorrow, meaning it won't show up til Monday, or it'll sit in boxing waiting on a sticker or some crap for another week lol.
I am pretty sure that if we constantly refresh the order status page on the dell website that it will speed things up a bit! /snicker
