    After Monitors I get "default monitor" What am I doing wrong? I don't see plug and play monitor properties. Thanks

    Look up your computer using your service tag on the Dell website.

    I have the Samsung. It's good, if a lil' fussy about viewing angles, especially vertically.

    thanks count.

    This is what I get when I try looking up my service tag:
    The current configuration tool is currently not available for your operating system/browser combination. There are two type right? Samsung and LG. just trying to find out which one I have. I don't understand why under Monitor properties it says "default monitor"

    For some reason, most diagnostic tools never told me the video screen manufacturer.

    I registered my laptop under my account and all the parts showed up?

    I usually use Firefox on Windows MCE?

    It just means "default" as in default display, not like... "generic."

    Apparently I found out I have a Samsung lcd. Which is better LG or samsung? I read that people prefer LG over Samsung. I do have some light light leak on top and bottom.

    LG is supposed to better on the E1705, so, I assume the same on the E1505.

    Light leakage does not bother me, though I do have some.

    More bothersome is that the viewing angle sweetspot is too narrow. I find myself shifting the laptop around and tilting the LCD a lot to get that good angle working.

    My desktop LCDs (Viewsonic VP730b) have me spoiled.

    Looking at your sig. We have almost the same setup Count. Im not really happy with the quailty of the lcd. On 1680x1050 it looks very nice, but the text is a bit too small for me. Anything below 1680x1050 looks very soft. kinda blurry. I try messing around with the setting on the catalyst control center, but nothing seems to help the pq. Any suggestions?

    I have this display on my E1505:

    PY654 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 15.4WXGA+, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC., TLF, LGP

    I have to assume LGP stands for LG-Philips? This is the 1440x900 screen. I had a 1680x1050 that had the following description:

    XD570 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 15.4WSXGA+, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC., GLARE WIDE VIEWING ANGLE, LENGTH/LONG

    I believe that is also an LG. In my opinion, the lesser resolution is ideal for this laptop. Both have comparably tolerable amounts of light leakage, but the WXGA+ has much better viewing angles.

    Text too small is kind of a physical thing, no fault of the LCD.

    Out of the box, mine was set-up with 120dpi and many of the icons fonts and things kinda jacked up at like 12 points and stuff.

    I like the small fonts, so, I set the resolution to 96dpi, and lowered most of the system fonts.

    LCDs work best at native resolution, the native resolution of the WXSGA+ screen is 1680x1050. Anything else will look blurry. They are fixed screen addressable displays, so, changing the resolution is asking it do something it's not really designed to do.

    Under settings > advanced, make sure your display is set to use Clear Type, and try the Clear Type tuner.

    Go to Device Manager...click on Monitor...click on Details:

    LPL=LG
    SEC=Samsung

    Pretty much it.

    there are multiple entries there (in your hardware manager) because you have other video display options (ie svideo, maybe dvi, vga, etc). just click on each of them until you find the lcd one that has a manufacturer in the #. i'd paste all the possible combinations for panel manufacturer's, but afaik dell has only been using lg philips and samsung panels lately.

    I'm with dazz on this one, I have four "Default Monitors" and none of them have a Hardware ID. I have seen several E1505s like this.

    dazz, as an alternative, look at your Packing Slip.

    I just download powerstrip and apparently under monitor information it says "default" :mad: On my package slip all I have is the item #.
    Just checked my service tag: CF264 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 15.4WSXGA+, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC., GLARE WIDE VIEWING ANGLE, SAMSUNG I guess I do have a Samsung.
