Laptop is about 5 years old, works well, but all of a sudden, it says no detection of battery, removed battery and re-installed, still the same. Works fine with power supply but i need to use the battery now and then. Please help me find a cheap fix as i want this to last at least another year before i need to replace it. Thanks in advance.

If it doesn't detect the battery...it sounds like a defective battery.
