I installed 2GB of RAM, but for some reason it only shows 1.87GB. Of the original 1GB it only showed 878MB. Is there a particular reason for this?

Your video card ,the Xpress 1150, is an integrated card that uses your system memory/ram. Though it may have some of its own deticated memory(maybe 64mb) that doesnt use up your ram.

That is so because you have an integrated graphics card in that 1501, the ATI x 1150 card that comes with the 1501 takes its memory from the laptop's main ram and therefore an amount of memory is reserved for this purpose... The same thing happens with my acer 5102 I have the x1100 and it takes away from my 1Gb therefore I only have 896mb of memory...
