Your red is much more pink than mine is. I have the 1520 and the red is kind of dark.

type of camera and settings depends on how well the reds come out. red is not an easy color for digital cameras, esp the lower-end models. so depending on that and what kinda editing he did, that will influence the color. i guarantee it is the same red as your red IRL.

Hi all. Thank you for the kind comments on the pictures.

I am not a professional photographer, but it is my hobby. I use a Canon 20D with 50mm f/1.4 lens to shoot the computer. The red on all Dell Inspirons are all the same. The color variation was probably due to the light in the room, my f stop settings, exposure settings and monitor settings. It is hard to really reproduce the color as seen in real person due to the above mentioned variables . The red is darker in person. Actually, I have seen all the colors at the Dell kiosk and they are all pretty dark and dull looking.

I will report back on the screen and any other issues once I turn it on.

i agree on the excellent photography angle, a lot of the pics have been blurry and didnt use macro when they should have, yours really make the red look special

please do tell us how the screen is as well as the make

Wow great pictures, I had tried to take some good pictures of my red 1520, but my camera just isn't capable of taking great pictures with what I was trying.

The red on mine definitely looks a fair bit darker from what the pictures show.

Thank you. No, I don't have a deviant art account. What is it?

Yea, why is it that I received it before you did when I modified the order too?

Yea, that was the effect I was going for. Also because of the lens' shallow depth of field.

I just turned it on. It took a while at the POST (Dell screen with the scroll bar) and after that it loads up. Bunch of the stuff popped up, setting up, updating..etc the usual stuff. The computer is very quiet and almost silent in an ambient room.

Screen: I checked the screen and it is grainy. It is more of a screen door effect as you would see on an older model LCOS or LCD screen. I also found a dead pixel on the upper right corner. The viewing angle is not great. You pretty much have to be straight on to have the best view. It is tolerable though.

Keyboard: The keyboard is nice. Easy to type.

Body: the build of the laptop is pretty solid. I did not find cracks or any other physical damage when it arrived. However, the speaker grill panel toward the left (looking at it) is a little bent. I guess a little wavy where you can see two little gaps, although tiny, you can still see it and know it is not straight.

Ruby Red Lid: The red color lid, although appear to be evenly red, if you tilt it to an angle, you can see spots (under well lit situation). It seems though it was sprayed unevenly. It will also pick up fingerprints. If you have greasy or sweaty hands, it will pick it up. I guess the only easy to clean lid is the white one since it is a glossy finish rather than all the other colors (soft touch finish).

Heat: The wrist rest of the left hand side gets warm. I don't know why. Is it where the CPU or heat sinks are?

So, what should I do about the dead pixel, the grainy screen, the not so even speaker grill? Should I sent it back and have them fix it or get a refund? Will Dell fix just one dead pixel? Also, how are they going to fix the grainy screen? Anyone who got it fixed, is the new screen better? Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

one dead pixel wont warrant the screen being replaced but the grainy screen definitely will. my advice would be to call in and tell them about the graininess and mention nothing of the pixel being dead. that will ensure you have the biggest chance to having something done about it. as for the speaker grill, that's really your call if you feel that should be replaced. i dont know how bad it is myself, but me personally, would prob just tolerate it since you dont look that close at it on a normal basis. but it doesnt hurt to call into Dell and tell them about it along with the screen. it seems a lot of people have had techs come out to replace the screen so there may be a chance that whoever comes out could replace the speaker grill as well.

Thank you for your advice. Should I be talking to Tech Support or Customer Service reps? Their online tech support chat is down... Thanks again for your advice.

umm that is a good question. i dont know for sure but i would try customer service because they may have to take info down and then transfer you to tech support. maybe someone else on the forum will say for sure what to do.

That looks like a Dell marketing picture! You've got the red laptop with the red wall and everything.

Edit - Too bad you focused on the wall, leaving the laptop blurry.
