    Dell 1420 "Sim Card" slot under battery?

    What's this used for? Does the laptop have a built in cellular modem or something?

    I bet it's an easy way for Dell to "check" in batteries and whatnot. As in replacement, or putting it together.

    dell's have that sim card slot because there is an option for a cingular modem.

    So you can't use it to make phone calls or send messages? 'Caus that would be cool!

    The SIM slot is for the mini-pci data card from AT&T/Cingular, T-Mobile, or any other carrier that requires a SIM.

    As for voice, that's up to the data card, though, based on current cards, I wouldn't hold my breath. You can always use Skype or your favorite IM service since you're anyways online with the data card.
