Just got my 1210 today and im very dissapointed with it, the screen looks horrible, when i say horrible I mean it is the worst looking screen I have ever seen on a notebook. The top 10 percent of the screen looks great the bottom 90 percent of the screen looks completely washed out almost white at boot up when it should be black.I tried tilting the screen back and forth a good 20-30 degrees but it only gets worse.I used powerstips to ID the screen and it says LCD58E3.I bought the notebook from costco, what options do I have to get the screen replaced, should I just return it and reorder a new one or should I call dell?I am also slightly unimpressed with the GPU performance, I was not expecting much but I played call of duty 2 at the lowest possible resolution with everything turned off and im only getting 10-20 FPS, is this normal?Sorry I don't have the best camera in the world but the screen actually looks worse in person than it does in this pic

Yeah thats definitly not how the screen is ment to look. You got the AV package, and from what I know all AV 1210's have AUO screens, which are the best avalable to the 1210. But I dont think that "LCD58E3" is AUO. But yeah there is something definitly wrong with that screen, and you should check your warranty information on what can be done about it. Im sure it came with atleast a 1 year Dell warranty, so you should give them a call. As for the game not working well. Make sure that your powermizer setting are set to Max Performance. If they're not it really really hinders your ability to play games at all.

If I call dell to have it repaired will they send someone out to replace the screen or would I have to send it back in?

the black is uniform across the screen. Its not as black as I'd like it to be, but its not washed out at the bottom like yours.

I tried to take a picture but my camera's automatic exposure compensation kicked in and messed it up.

There are basically 3 lcd's screens that dell uses in the m1210

    auo
    samsung
    toshiba

with the auo being the best and toshiba being the worse. The LCD58E3 is the toshiba.

I got my m1210 today and I'm extremely pleased so far, the screen is sharp and incredibly bright, with the factory install and drivers I'm getting over 2400 in 3d05

Is that $2391 CDN$ ???? That price seems awfully high!!

If so, I see now they (dell Canada) have a FREE 2GB upgrade on the M1210. You might want to see if you can save some money!

    Just so you know.

When I first got the laptop, and even after I uninstalled all the bloatware, I still didn't get great game preformance. I did a clean install and now it runs great. HL2 went from 15fps to 40fps from a clean install. It made that much of a difference.

I could be wrong but recently Dell started using the Toshiba-Matsu****a LCDs (LCD58E3) on the M1210 with AV package. :(

i have this screen with the NON-AV package. suffice to say, its not a great Looking LCD. its not bad when windows desktop is up, but on blacks, the light leakage is terrible.

ill take a pic later, but mine is very similar to the OPer.
