I placed my order of Vostro 1400 at Dell UK last night at 8pm, gave the sales the config I need, and all the billing and delivery info. Everything was fine and I recieved my customer no etc at 1am..

Just now at 8am, a staff called me and requested for a 2nd time verification. She confirmed my billing address again and asked if I am a student, then she asked for my Student ID no., and Student e-mail address.

I didn't want to give her as said as I believed Dell don't need that info for the billing and delivery, and the billing has passed through means I have a correct ID and address. Besides I didn't give the sales these info, so there's no verfication these are new information.

She just said she need me to provide my student ID no. and a land line no. (which I don't have) or my student e-mail address.

I don't feel comfortable, as I ordered a 640M, and another older computer from Dell before, I have never been asked for such stupid info before (who've been asked by buying things with no student discount?). Do they really need, or have the rights to know my Student ID no., and student e-mail address?

yes, whats the big deal that they know it? they are just verifying that you are a student. microsoft will do the same thing if you buy their $60 office 2007 ultimate special. Basically you just have to prove to them that you are a student at the college you said you are. I dont think you should have any problem giving them your number.
