I recently got an e1505 which came loaded with crap I didn't want so I decided I'd format it using SG's guide. I am wondering though if I can use the Dell™ OS Recovery Utility, which says it creates a back operating system CD, instead of having to call in and request a copy of XP.

Simply, could I use the CD created by this utility when formatting my e1505, or do I need to request a copy of XP from Dell?

i would request the re-install cd from Dell. The recovery cd will take you back to factory settings.

yes, you can use that utility but only one time. It will create a XP disc so that you can format. Dell included this software over a year ago when they stopped sending the XP discs. They figured this was an easy way for users to create their own XP disc, but then they stopped including the software on the systems. You can also call dell and request the XP disc from them.

The Dell Restore Utility is the one that restores your laptop back to factory condition.
