28 days, I've ordered before and had it within 7 days, but 27 days is like taking the p!ss.

what could be causing this delay?

    Yeah, mine bugged me...

I found the 20-day lead-time frustrating. Now, I don't know about most people, but I ended up keeping 15/4 free in my diary.

I log on tonight to see that it's shipped already. I'll be peeved if it arrives tomorrow, as I have commitments which I can't change most of the afternoon and the first part of the morning. Friday, I should be able to clear.

It annoys me that the FAQ on the website gives a lead-time of 3-6 business days, and that I couldn't find out that the delivery window was substantially longer until I'd placed my order and had the amount whipped from my account.

It annoys me that the order jumps from "pre-production" to "shipped" in less than a day.

Erm, hello Dell? Most of us have lives. I know that you're covering your back by disappointing us initially with the long delays quoted, but those of us who aren't moronic enough to just feel relief that the item has shipped quickly(!!) will feel mucked-around, and could struggle to ensure someone was able to take delivery.

Bah... why can't they just give us a realistic ETA in the first place? Had they said "within 5-10 days" and I'd have been in a better position to cater for the sudden jump in circumstances.

    /rant.

i've been told this is due to the processor being out of stock, I've asked for it to be delivered to me at work. hopefully this wont be a problem and the postroom here will accept it.
i've ordered from other mail/internet companies and they've not had problems sending it to my work address.

by the way, what happens if someone wasn't home to receive it? will they give a call and come back the next day, like what DHL does?

How long it takes to "shipped" status from the day it went into "production - your system is being built"? (in UK)

Might be a glitch in the status update, or they are waiting on a specific part.

It will probably go through Production quickly.

sorry i meant the 8th of may not the 15th as i posted above. Website still shows in pre-production, my 1530 was all standard (8600gt). 2gb ram but had a 320gb 7200rpm hdd. I contacted Dell today and asked if a specific part is causing a delay and they said they are waiting a reply from the factory or somthing to see whats causing the delay.

Ive spoken with 3 other reps who all say that the only delay is because this laptop is 'high demand' and they have a limited supply. I just hope i get it before the end of may!! ordered on the 14/4/08
