Well, as I suspected....delay number 2 for my 1720. Order date was originally 7/8 first ship date was 7/19, next date 7/26 now 8/2. This could go on to infinity and beyond.

I am not sure if I should cancel my order or not as I am leaving on vacation on
8/4 and will be gone for 10 days. I wanted to try and talk with one of the USA reps to see if I can change the color of my unit or if I can do anything different to make sure it atleast ships by 8/2, I just don't want it to arrive while I am away or worse be delayed yet again and not know about it.

Thanks for any info you can give on whom to contact that may be able to help in this matter.

PS: I know some of you have been waiting longer than me, I don't mind the wait I just am afraid of it arriving while I am away.

It's not that we've been waiting longer - I have, but the fact that they missed the target ship date twice (they gave me a date in August) is why you should complain.

Just call in to the main number?

8600 uses more battery life and creates more heat. If he/she doesn't want to play intensive games, or many games at all, it's not a good tradeoff.

Changing that would also require a new order to be placed, Dell cannot modify key parts of a system once it's building.

It's upsetting how you keep being transferred from one rep to another. Pardon my prejudice, but this seems to be a very American phenomenon. Anyhow, if your going to be on vacation couldn't you have it shipped to a friends house instead?

Possibly, I just really did not want all this stress hanging over my head while on vacation (if you know what I mean).

I am on the phone with yet another rep....hopefully he can help.

I am very nice on the phone, but eventually I take it out on a rep and they take care of me. I threatened to bill them for my time spent on the phone. :)

I am trying to be REALLY sweet and nice on the phone...I hate to get upset...hopefully this tact will work for me. Supposidly they are putting a rush in to ship by 8/3 and now I am on hold with the Modification department to see what can be modified to get the order out sooner I guess. I am sure I will have to change the color or something.

I would watch out about that.. When you modify a system they generally have to cancel and recreate the order. At which time your delivery date usually takes longer. I don't know if they have any control over this. I don't think the modify department are the ones that can expedite and offer overnight shipping. Trying to get Dell to expedite and give you concrete ship date seems pretty fruitless at best. I don't think any Rep has that kind of control over manufacturing/production. Unless you know the direct line of somebody really high up at Dell... I would think it pretty hard to do what you are trying to do.. expedite with some guarantee of pre approved ship date. Generally some of the people here (including myself) can get Dell to offer expediting and overnight shipping for free.. but with no guarantee of ship date. In fact, I really don't know if my order will actually be expedited or overnighted for that matter. The status page does not reflect any of this.. Neither does the status phone number. Only based on was Dell reps say. Which is not saying much.

EDIT.. 1 800 status number tells my my 1420 is in boxing.. so maybe there is something to expediting. :)

You must have threatened to cancel the order. Usually when you do that with dell they just cancel the order since most of the reps do have the authority to cancel a order. Even the online chat has the power to do that.. I am interested to hear what you said to get transferred to a "save a sale agent".

Well, have not modified anything yet...that was kinda a dead end, and I don't remember threating to cancel my order. I have been sweet as pie to every rep so who knows .....

I have now been on the phone 1 hour and 33 minuets with Dell...amazing!

Well, just to let you know....the final call with the save the sale department endended up with them dropping the call with me! 1 hour and 35 minuets down the drain!

I guess I will keep my order and pray it ships before I leave, I dont know what else to do.

My 1721 is delayed because of the shortage of LCD screens. Before it was delayed because of my color, now the screens. I wonder if I would have gotten my screen if they had my color in.

Do you have a case number? They should be able to keep track of all of the calls on your case number.

Call up and ask to speak to a manager, and seriously threaten to bill them at $30/hr rounded up for your time on the phone. Say it jokingly, but be firm. You can get things done with Dell, but it's luck of the draw.

Thanks XIE....after the 1hour 35 min epsoide today...I am just going to leave it alone and see what happens if anything. I have a feeling that these back orders are only just beginning and dont expect to see my machine until maybe Septermber *hush the thought*. I think Dell is hoping some will cancel their orders so they can catch up...I am so depressed!

Just ask your next rep to put you in contact with the CS manager, the problem should be resolved quickly and efficiently, I intitially got screwed on my vista upgrade, after MANY calls to CS, I demanded to talk to a manager, calmly and politely told him my story, and 3 days later I got a new upgraded machine, the vista upgrade, and $100 credited back to my card, not a gift card, 100 bucks to do whatever I wanted with. Whatever you do, dont get lippy or rude, its very counterproductive.
