I am currently in the market for a notebook computer, and i seem to have decided on the XPS m1210, because I like the power and size. Battery life is important to me, and up until now, i planned to get the integrated graphics in order to prolong the battery life (i am not a graphics intensive user). Just now, however, i was looking at reviews of the m1210 on various sites, and one mentioned that i would not be able to run the full windows vista. With all this power and ram, that would be a waste. so i have three questions

    1) Can the Vista (with aero) run on the integrated graphics?

    2) With the dedicated graphics, how long could i expect the 9 cell battery to last, with a light workload of basically just word processing and a little internet browsing? (i can only find reviews where the reviewer is carrying out battery eating functions, such as installing programs, watching dvd's etc)

    3) Just the same question, but with integrated graphics

thanks for your time and help

    1) Short answer -- No. Long answer -- It won't work with integrated Intel GMA 950 video chipsets.

    2) My laptop can last up to 2 hours on battery given the right conditions. it probably lasts more like 1 to 1.5 hours. I have a 7900GS

    3) No comments as I don't have experience with laptops and integrated graphics.

Will Aero run? I think so. Will it be much better with dedicated graphics? Definitely.

You could probably expect 4-5hrs out of M1210 with dedicated graphics, but I'm not sure.

I think you should go with the Nvidia 7400 if you plan on getting the M1210.

Yes I would just go with the 7400. GMA 950 will run aero, but the 7400 will run it better. And if you get the 9-cell you can still get 4-5 hours with the 7400, I can vouch for that.

The Intel GMA 950 WILL work with Windows Vista and fully support Aero Glass.

I researched it because I too got a Intel GMA 950 and wanted to make sure I could run it.
