I have been following the topic of the 5150 heating up. But other then that is there any other problems with the model before I pull the trigger and get one.

Getting it for speed and will mainly remain on a desk.

The heat thing is the major problem. As my previous post mentioned, the UXGA screens had issues, but I don't believe they offer the UXGA anymore.

Other than that, I recommend once a week blowing some compressed air in the fan intake underneath the computer, as dust easily builds up on the heat sink, and is a major reason for the heating/shut down of the computer.

I got my 5150 close to a month ago. I have used it for at least 4 hours a day since then. On weekends, more. Yeah - it gets warm after use. I say warm because I used to have an older Toshiba Sattelite that got the point where it got too hot to put on your lap. The Inspiron is well within my reason.

I ended up going with the SXGA+ monitor which I love. I find that the screen is really crisp and I have had no trouble reading text or anything. The only con I have about it is the weight (which I knew about and accepted when I bought it). With the power adapter and everything, its close to about 10 pounds. But I wanted power over portability.

So to sum things up - so far my experience has been a good one. Hope it helps.

There have also been numerous reports of the 5150 'eating' motherboards. Apparently numerous people have had to have their motherboards replaced several times. Check out the dell forums and you'll see what I mean.
