So earlier, I planned on getting an Inspiron 1521 because it was affordable and all, but after browsing around the boards, I had second thoughts about the AMD processors.

Can laptop with AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-56 (1MB/1.8GHz) with 2 gigs of RAM function comfortably or are they really incomparable to the Core2Duos?

If not, what notebook configuration would you recommend that's affordable ($800-$900)? Thanks in advance!

What kind of task do you plan to do with the 1521? For basic mulitasking, surfing the web, office you probably wont notice the difference.

Yes the c2d is faster/more efficient overall and had better battery life but depending on your needs, a AMD processor will be sufficient

I'll probably be using it most for homework, browsing the web, and gaming (older games like CS, or WC3).. yea basic multitasking.

you can always check of the dell vostros line of notebooks. they have better build than the inspirons, and they are about 200 to 400 cheaper depending on configuration.

For what you describe the Turion is fine. Also the 1521 has the best integrated graphics avaialable right now (690T). With that said though it is tough to beat the Vostro deals with discrete graphics and core 2 duo mobiles. If you do want a long term warranty though check out the D531 laptops 700 gets you 2Ghz dual core, 1 gig ram, and a 3 year warranty.. you do get another gig and 80gb of HD space with the 1521 for and additional $70 over the D531, but no three year warrranty.. and the lattitude is a class above the 1521.
