I ordered a Dell Vostro 1700 on 9/12 and the ESD is today. (9/19) However, the online status still shows it in production and the phone system says I'm still in the build stage. I'm kind of concerned that there is a problem here and I'm awaiting response from Dell about this. I ordered with my Visa Debit card and the charge for the laptop showed up on my online statement at the time of purchase. However, a few days later it disappeared and has yet to be seen again. Is this normal? Are they just preauthing to make sure the funds are there and waiting to push it all the way through until they ship? I'm worried that maybe my bank has blocked the funds or something which is causing the delay in my order. (waiting to hear back from them as well) I really want my new laptop as this old Inspiron 5100 is showing its age! :) Thanks!

you can try get a receipt from the atm. if it shows the balance and available balance difference from the laptopt then they are holding the fund just in case you dont have enough when they ship it.

I just 'chatted' with Dell and they informed me that they do not charge my card until the order ships. Also, my order has been delayed one week due to the LCD being on backorder. ARGH!!! Is anyone else seeing their system delayed due to the LCD backorder?

what dell does is initially "charge" your card to make sure you have the funds available, then once they confirm you do, they give you your money back. Then they "officially charge" you once your laptop has shipped.

They probably aren't lying to you. I also ordered via debit and was not charged until my order shipped, 52 days later.

Oh well. I managed to con them into giving me next day shipping for free, so whenever it is ready it'll get here faster. :)

It shows up on the online status as 'next business day'. My ESD now shows 9/26 with a delivery date of 9/27. I guess I'm going to have to find something else to do this weekend. :p

I payed via Debit Card too. Doesn't matter if you use a CC or DC.. they won't actually charge you until the product ships and its been signed for. They take the funds out initially so that they know that some money is there in the first place. Don't worry.

Yeah, I'm not worried now since I know there was a delay because of the LCD backorder. I just called the automated line and the system is in the boxing stage, so it's moving right along now. I bet it ships today or Monday at this rate. :) I tried to get Saturday delivery, but apparently they don't offer that.

Well it says my order has shipped today but DHL shows it as Ground instead of Next Day. ARGH! I will have to speak to someone at Dell to see if they can either upgrade it in transit or give me some sort of credit. Oh well, at least it's shipped so I can keep an eye out for it. :)
