I found a dead pixel on my Dell 1520 which is about 3 months old now. I have contacted support and that is what they told me:
"From your email, I understand that there is a dead pixel on the notebook LCD screen. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
As a computer user myself, I understand your concerns on this matter.
xxxxxx, just for your information that according to industry standard, it is consider acceptable for the screen to have 5 dead pixel. I not too sure how big is the pixel you are referring to, therefore, it would best for you to take a photo and send it to me."
Is it really normal to have 5 dead pixel on a screen? I'm a bit of a noob but isn't 1 dead pixel a sign of more to come?

If you had additional warranty/care (apart from the 1 year stuff which is included by default) from Dell, they would have sent you a new notebook! At least that's what the people with additional warranty/care from Dell claim. Just wait for some of them to post!

Its all depends. in India 5 dead pixels is ok. Everywhere else 1 dead pixel is already too much
-
Rather than suffering with your current notebook, you can return the notebook and get refund minus restocking fees and purchase another! Wait for a deal around Cyber Monday or Christmas or for any coupons. The savings from the deal/coupon should offset the restocking fees!

Just because there is a dead pixel doesn't mean more are coming. It just means there's one present. LCD manufacturers do consider up to 5 dead pixels to be within acceptable limits. Think about it. On a 1440x900 display, you have 1,296,000 pixels. From that perspective, having one or two stuck doesn't seem that incredible, and it's actually amazing that they'll replace a screen with 5 or more dead pixels, considering that amounts to less than .0004% of the total pixels on-screen.
From what I understand, most companies with ANY dead pixel policy will replace the screen immediately if the pixel is in the center of the screen, though.
Seems kind of ridiculous that he would say he's not sure how big the pixel was, though...it's a pixel on a 1440x900 screen. That's about all you need to know -
@sinstoic:
Can you get a refund after the first month? The OP's system is 3 months old! -
PS: This is a system bought from Dell Home and extensively used for 9 months. -
Ah, but there's a huge difference between replacement and refund. Within 9 months, the model has probably been discontinued, anyway, so they're just clearing out surplus by exchanging the system. Chances are REAL good that the CSR would just laugh at someone asking for a refund, though.

My office just exchanged 10 unused unopened (not even the outer box) Latitudes which were 11 months old for the new Precisions! (Yes, we got full refund but had to pay the difference amount between the Latitude and Precision)
PS: Most new employees opted for Apple Macbook Pro and that is why the pile up! Stupid IT had ordered in advance! -
Dell business will make concessions that Dell personal won't, I guess. It could also be the fact that they were unopened.

PS: You have changed the OPs thread and the conversation is now drifted! -
sign me up where you work lol !
