So the ethernet jack on my M140 died. It's not a driver issue or anything, it's well and truly dead and Dell has had me ship the notebook in for servicing. It actually arrived there yesterday.
Just curious. Does this likely require replacement of the entire system board, as I'm assuming that the ethernet jack is integrated into the board? If so, what are the chances Dell still has replacement boards for this out of production notebook? I don't see any refurbs available for sale on Dell outlet for example. How long do they continue to stock major replacement parts for out of production units? Or can the jack itself be replaced without replacing the motherboard?
What I'm driving at is what are the chances I might see a little upgrade from this? Or am I simply dreaming?

If its still under warranty, they will most likely have more than enough motherboards.
Anyways, good luck, you never know, you might get an upgrade. -
Yeah, they'll probably have parts.
I actually got this notebook from Dell Outlet (not that this matters) only about a week before the model disappeared from their site, last April. I seldom use the ethernet jack so if I'd been thinking I probably should have waited another 3 or 4 months to call it in and increase the odds that they'd be forced to replace it with a modest upgrade rather than have the parts to fix it.
Oh well.
Dead ethernet jack on M140. Still fixable?
