I ordered two 1720 Inspiron laptops and they came this morning (ordered on the 29th Oct) and there's a dead pixel smack bang in the middle of one of the screens, it's very distracting and seems quite big for a single pixel (screen resolution is 1920x1200).

Anyway, i can't find anything on Dells UK website about their policy for dead pixels and i've read on the forums everything from 0 to 7 dead pixels are acceptable. If it was anywhere but right in the middle where it's constantly visible i wouldn't be bothered but i aint willing to put up with it so i was wondering if anyone knows where i stand? Do i stand a cat in hells chance of getting the laptop replaced? If not i assume i could just send it back and get a refund seeing as it's only a day old.

I had a feeling when they were ordered, built and delivered in such superfast time that there'd be a problem somewhere

out of the 2.3 million pixels there is one that doesn't work...big deal. If its a huge deal, you can call up dell, but normal policy is 1-7 being acceptable like you said, and they might not take it back without a restocking fee.

i would definitely call them up and say "theres a very noticeable black dot right in the middle of my screen" - see what they say

i have heard that up to 7 pixels is considered "acceptable" - but if it was right in the middle of the screen and annoyed me, i would have no problems calling up to have it taken care of...

I don't know what Dell's UK return policy is like, however I know that in the US, you can return the notebook for a brand new one up to 21 days after purchase, no questions asked. This also means there is no restocking fee if you exchange in those first 21 days.

You might want to call or email them and ask what the return policy is.

It seems uneven so i think it might be a cluster - anyway i rang them up and they were great about it. They're sending a new laptop out. I was surprised how straightforward it was - i've had horrendous problems with other pc companies!
