This is my first time to this site. I have a 14 month old Dell Studio 1536 Wal-Mart special that is dead. According to the box it only had a 1 year warrenty. I know the 320G HDD & the 4G of RAM still work ( tested them in a different laptop ). I'm pretty sure the motherboard is dead. The power light comes on , media lights flash & the HDD spins but nothing else happens no monitor, no HDD light, no caps lock light, no USB mouse light, nothing. Through my searching the net I figured out that I can put 1535 / 1537 guts into my 1536 chassis ( which is good as I no longer will buy anything with AMD inside ( this is my first & last ) & I haven't found a 1536 motherboard ). I have found many different 1535 / 1537 motherboards & processors. What I want to know is which ones do I want & which to stay away from. From reading on here I already know I want one w/ the ATI graphics and which fan I need for that. I'm a mechanic w/ just enough computer knowledge to get me into trouble & not enough to get me back out.

Where did you read the 1535/1537 motherboard will work in a 1536?

On this site that sells 1535/1537 motherboards says that its not compatible with the 1536.

From what I've read you have to switch the motherboard, cpu, and fan. The chassis for the 1535 & 1536 are the same, just the 1536 uses AMD guts & the 1535 uses Intel guts. I'm sure the site you referenced means you can't switch motherboards without also switching cpu's and fans. Those are the only different components between the two systems that I have found. I came across it while searching. The reply was made by JohnByeBye if I remember correctly.

Iam facing exactly the same problem. The laptop media panel lights are ON but no Display. I even checked it on external video source (dell monitor). But still no display. Its sure that the issue is with motherboard.
My Dell warranty is already expired. I believe that Dell service engineers can still fix up the problem after end of warranty since its a manufacturing defect. Can anybody suggest any other alternative?

I installed a 1537 motherboard & Intel CPU and the computer is better than it was new. I have an extra 1535 motherboard that I will sell you. The first won I got off E-bay didn't work with theprocessor I bought.

Dell will never admit to how bad the build quality of these notebooks are. They are done selling them and no longer support them.
