Here I was, all set with my decision to get a Clevo 560 (sager 5320) when the time eventally comes to get a new laptop.
Final price for the config I wanted; approx 1600 shipped.
And what happens? I log into my corporate site and check the partner discounts and what do i see?
Dell giving discounts of 500 bucks, plus additional discounts of 150, plus my minimum 6% discount for being corporate partner...
And I can get an inspiron 9300 with faster cpu, nearly double the HD, 17 in screen, 2 yrs onsite warranty, and the final price?
nearly 200 dollars LESS!
Darn you michael dell! Darn you!
Here I wanted to have a non-standard laptop, something relatively unique, and not help perpetuate the monolith that is Dell... and they go and make it hard to justify spending extra money on a lesser machine.
Bah!

do you also curse Mr. Walton when you're buying your groceries, tires, prescription glasses, dvds, clothes, and beer?
-
No, becuase I don't shop at Walmart.
But thanks for trolling. -
You're going to get one ugly computer if you get the i9300, though.
-
I hear you. I can also get Dell laptops at Employee Purchase Program (EPP) prices. The last time I checked, I could get a Dell 9300 for $100 less than the current 30% off coupon. It makes it hard to get anything else. I have resisted so far, but I don't know how much longer I can hold out.

I apologize that you thought I was trolling....I was simply playing off the sarcasm you used in your post and continued it into mine. I shop atWal-Mart, and I curse them while I do. I also like Dell computers quite a bit, so no trolling, just joking...
-
no harm done.
Yeah.. but if getting a bland looking computer saves me hundreds of dollars... I'll take bland. As long as it functions properly.
And Dell laptops have a pretty good rep. I'd never buy the crap that is their desktops... but the laptops are nice. -
I will agree that Dell's notebooks are very bland and boring looking, at least in my opinion, they don't seem to give off any style at all, their really generic and ugly looking. But they are a good value and I think for the price you pay, their quality is good. I'd go for the 9300 for sure.

You could do what I did and cover the hell out of it with stickers It may not be much to look at, but you can easily forget that there is a real world when you're 6 inches from the screen for hours.

Ya, Dell seems to have the best prices for the components their laptops contain. Too bad they aren't more sleek looking. But Dell does have a relatively good rep. and they sell the most laptops than any other manufacturer so they must be doing something right.
Darn you Dell! ;)
