The spot where I rest my hand is forming a dark patch. I dont think it is ths ilver wearing away because this notebook is less than 1 month old.
However I used isopropyl alcohol and a CD cleaning cloth and it didnt really make that much of a difference.
Has anyone else had this problem? And have you found a way to fix this?

Sounds like the oils in your palms... ok so thats a E1705 we can confirm that gets this issue, which now makes me worry about my E1505... =(((
I hear people are using screen protector style covers over the palm areas to prevent this..
However.. I wish there were more real options. >.<
Dell was stupid to release this as silver.. -

You can try and use goo-gone. I have used this on other electronics to get discoloration off.
-
Honestly, if it's like my Acer, I think it is the silver coating wearing off, I just live with it, happened on 3 out of my last 4 notebooks.
-
Anyone know if that really works? Does it remove the discolor? Also.. what do you use AFTER goo gone? As you know goo gone is oily too. -

Ill try it later tonight maybe on my one laptop that I think is just going bye bye fully. >.<
Since that one has palm discoloring. Then Ill report back. -
True, that happens to me too. I had noticed the black patch on my palm rest but I really don't care...well, I might, so Mysticales, please let us know how it goes.
-
This is also happening to my 2 months old E1505... -
I also contacted decalgirl.com in trying to find out if they can design me a custom skin that will be for the silver part of the base.. with a skin on it.. I wont have a issue anymore and it wont look as tacky as a screen protector.
I AM surprised tho that no 3rd party has something to protect the palm areas... -
if someone makes a protector, i will like to use it

the silver color of the plastic shouldn't 'wear off' because the color is molded into the plastic. it's not like the plastic is that dark color underneath the silver or something. it's simply grease and oils and dirt from your hands.
in all honesty, if you used a proper typing position; you wouldn't have this problem in the first place. i've had my (silver palmrest) dell 6000 for over a year and it still looks brand new because i don't rest my palms on the palmrests; neither should you. -
If its grease and things like that then goo-gone should do the job... -

I had discoloration on my i6000 after 2 weeks of COD. ahem. So i got the keyboard cover for macs from www.tombihn.com for $6 shipped. It's most definately worth it and covers the entire area below the keyboard on the palmrest from the left arrow key to the left edge of the palmrest. It's also comfy for the wrists, all suedelike.
If anyone tries the googone tell us how it goes. Also, will it work on the keys, my WASDF is really shiny, though they also look a bit smooth. It's almost as if i've worn down the texture on the keys... -
Ill try tonight or more likely tommorrow noonish when I am off. Forgot to bring the googone home with me last night lol.
-
just cause it's called a palmrest doesn't mean that's the correct typing position
Dark spot showing up on the surfance of my notebook...
