The LCD on my 5150 (6 years old) is not lighting up.

The computer turns on and functions fine. I can see a faint image as well.

I thought it would be the backlight, but a desktop technician (a friend, I didn't pay anyone to look at a 6 year old laptop  ) thinks it's the inverter.

I found the inverters on eBay for $8... which sounds too good to be true...

Can anyone confirm this is an inverter problem?

And no I do not want to replace it! it's a great backup machine in my home. :)
