Don't blame Vista. You do not know that this is the problem. I've had Vista on this desktop for a year, and I've never had a BSOD.

but i think i'll stick with it.. my little brother convinced me that "it's the new generation, got to get out with the old and in with the new."

so i'm going to give it a go. :)

BSOD is not only caused by software, just so you know.

i had just booted up the computer for the first time. after changing the display to classic mode, and opening up internet explorer, i got the blue screen. i really didn't check what it said, but i will the next time it happens.

Yeah don't blame Vista. Vista has been working fine and I run firefox all the time.
Looks like you have a software or hardware conflict.

Bluescreens are usually caused by bad Drivers. Though the couple I've had with Vista are me coming out of games and it was apparently caused by Antivirus according to Vista. Haven't had one in awhile since I updated my programs to their newest versions.

there's usually a error number or whatever on the screen so copy that down and google it :]

it should be something like 0000x0000000000000024151sdffsgfat

I love it how everyone immediately blames Vista...

    <_<

You just received a product brand new, which thousands of people have received without BSOD on first boot, which Microsoft has spent years perfecting, and a system which Dell has spent over a year designing with Vista in mind. You obviously have a defective product, which is the nature of the business, and need to contact Dell for a replacement of sorts or a technician dispatch...

Blue screen may be caused by any of:
    - Bad OS
    - Bad drivers
    - Bad hardware

I have recieved so many errors in Vista on my M1330. The most common being "Windows Explorer Needs to Close". Luckily, the computer doesn't shut down. In my opinion, Vista is buggy now but it will get better. Vista Business may be better than Home Premium? I just know that Windows XP was extremely stable on most every computer I used. Vista is just weird.

Actually, Vista is infact a POS (which I can attest to, have been using it since before it came out to the general public via MSDNAA). However, the problem the OP exhibits is most likely a hardware issue. I would immediately point to faulty or loose RAM. It could be a variety of other issues, but when your trying to reinstall Vista and it locks, thats a very bad hardware sign.

What antivirus software are you running Drangoneye?

    I'm running NOD32.

I think you have some kind of hardware incompatibility. Have you added any new hardware recently? I have an Inspiron E1405 with Vista. I've never gotten the blue screen of death. Run Firefox too! Never a problem.
