I am aware that Intel, ATI, and Nvidia will be releasing new DX10 cards in the near future.....
My question is, will it be possible to upgrade the GPU (say X1400) on an existing laptop to a new DX10 card when they come out?
Will the new DX10 cards be compatable with Santa Rosa platforms only, or will they work with other predecessors (Core 2 duo, Core duo etc.)??
Any ideas, thoughts or comments?

Graphics cards in a laptop are generally non-upgradeable. Don't count on it.

I am also aware of that... but I think if newer I6400 / e1505 will come with dx10 cards then older i6400's can generally be upgraded to these cards (except if they came with integrated gpu's like gma950)....
Any other thoughts about the expected gpu / processor compatability of the upcoming DX10 cards ? -
Well, beings that if DX10 cards come, they will come with Santa Rosa. Which means the motherboard might be different, which means it might not work.
That being said, I would probably give it a 50/50 chance that it will be doable.
@piratey: Most Dell that do not have integrated cards are upgradeable...they are the rare exception out of the bunch. There's a few others, but I do not have the whole list. -
Will the motherboard really change with the release of Santa Rosa?
All I know is that Santa Rosa is really based on the same architecture as the core duo's / core 2 duo's with minor differences such as higher FSB speed and what not. So I just assumed that Santa Rosa will install on the same motherboard... -

I wonder how much gain in performance / graphics people will get with Santa Rosa + DX10 in comparison with Core2Duo + DX9.
Will the DX10 cards show significant improvement in performance that its worthy selling what I currently have to get a laptop with such card? -

I think systems will see the biggest improvement with DX10 cards in Vista where there is native DX10 support. Otherwise I don't how much of an improvement we will see.
