Hi hope this thred is in the right place
I have a DELL 9400 with the X1400 card in it, i now want to run Dell 30" screen at it with highest res and for that i need a D-DVI card.
I am now wondering if there are any external options for my laptop that enables it to run big screen whitout a D-DVI outpot?

    Best regards Henrik

DVI-D is needed because the graphics card needs the extra bandwidth to support such a high resolution. You cannot put out (even with extra goodies) more than you put in...and right now you can only put in the bandwidth DVI offers.

Now, the 9400 does have an upgradeable GPU, so you could contact Dell parts and get the 7900GS...I believe that has DVI-D support.

    Good luck.

The 30" Dell LCD Monitor requires dual-link DVI-D to reach maximum resolution, which your 9400 cannot do even with the best video card available for it.
