    Hi all,

I have finally attempted to burn DVDs on my lappy, but the rom is really loud! I was burning the DVD when i was in the library (and tried at home), and everyone was looking at me...... :< Do u guys experience the same problem, there were major vibration during burning. I can feel it on the table.

Also, i was using nero burning rom 7, and LG dvd disc and Imation DVD disc, they both cant go up to 8x and its really slow, i have read from before that its normally disc related, but if my memory is still functioning, i remember burning at 8x with the same discs batch (thats why i got more of them). Does this mean there is something wrong with my drive? If so, can it be replaced, i am still under complete cover with dell at the moment, but i am in AU and the lappy was purchased in HK (it said its asia-pacific and i checked that it inculdes AU)?

Secondly, i have seen you guys overclocking the GPU and playing around with the driver to boost performance, would this really increase the graphics speed in games?

Lastly, one more praise for the XPS 1210, when everyone was studying hard for their exams in the library, with their laptops, i was playing NFS carbon and Oblivion on mine, hahaahhahaa!!!!

    CHEERS!

You can not burn an 8x disk at 8x on all the drives supporting 8x. It also depends on the firmware. I don’t know exactly why, but sometimes firmware may prevent an 8x writer from writing at 8x on 8x rated disks. A firmware upgrade may fix it, but it is not guaranteed and little bit risky. Search in google and CDFreaks forums for your driver model number (something like DW-Q58A) and disk Media Code (Something like MCC 02RG20) and see if there are similar complaints.

If there is lot of vibration, I think the disks you are using are not even. Try with another disk brand.

Over clocking may give you a marginal FPS boost, but personally I don’t think it is a good idea to OC notebook VGA due to heat problems.
