Hey guys,
I'm having a really annoying problem, basically my DVD-RW drive in my inspiron 9400 (e1705) has stopped working properly.
Although it does work (burn dvd's and read cd's etc.) its running really really really slowly. It reads at about 500 kb/s when reading a dvd and takes about 2 hours to burn a 4.8gb dvd, this is rediculous i can't do anything with it cause it takes years to get anything done. Has anyone had this problem before? if so how did you fix it? Can someone suggest a solution?
P.s i've run the dell diagnostics and they all say its fine (even though it took ten years to finish), i've also tried the nero speed test (which failed). If anyone can think of something else i can use to diagnose this better i would be very appreciative, thanks

You definately seem to have a problem there.
Although I've only copied and burned a couple of DVD's since I got my laptop, they took about 10 and 14 minutes respectively with the Pioneer hardware and Sonic software. -
i should have mentioned i've got the sony dvd-rw.
Yeah its wierd because it only started happening about two days ago -

Check to see if there is a firmware update for your DVD writer. Or perhaps, it could be a heat issue.

I have the exact same problem, with a DELL E1505 please Help me I just tried to burn an Audio CD it took over 30 minutes to complete. I checked the DMA properties, and this is what I've Found
There are two IDE Controlers
Primary IDE Controller
Device 0:
Set to Automatic DMA when available
Currently Active: Ultra DMA Activated
Device 1:
Set to Automatic DMA when available
Currently Active: Not Available
Secondary IDE Controller
Device 0:
Set to Automatic DMA when available
Currently Active: PIO Mode Activated
Device 1:
Set to Automatic DMA when available
Currently Active: Not Available
The only option besides "DMA when available" its PIO mode only so how can i activate DMA on device 0 of secondary IDE Controller?
Please Help -
