Hi i bought my Dell Inspiron 1520 around 3 weeks ago. It has the TSSTcorp TS-L632H DVD-RW drive. Everything was ok and it wrote a DVD perfectly too(using the included Roxio program). But yesterday I switched on the lapi to write a cd and the dvdrom would not eject by pressing the eject button. The green light just blinked a few times and then nothing. However after a few button presses and 2-3 mins, it ejected and i placed the blank cd in it. Using imgBurn i tried to write an ISO image but it failed in an error (Unable to write sector, i think). And then the cd wouldnt eject again. So i tried ejecting it from windows explorer which worked. (BTW the same image was written successfully to a similar CD on my desktop pc). I tried reading a CD and the drive would detect the CD only after 2-3 mins.

So i shut it down and thinking i screwed up the pc, i did a Dell factory image restore. Still the dvdrom would eject only after a few presses and a long time. I was really desp cos its only 3 weeks old!

However today everything is working alright. I wrote a CDRW successfully(through windows), no probs and the drive ejects as soon as the button is pressed. I am wondering whether i should get it checked by Dell (its working alright now). Has anybody else had this problem?

If it happens again, get it replaced under warranty. It's an easy replacement.
