    hi

been having a problem with my dvd burner on my dell M1330 and it can not burn anything on DVD-R?? im using nero 7 and the DVD burner does work with CD-R and movies and games but I can not burn DVD-R, when you put a blank DVD-R in it doesn't recognize DVD-R. I have talked to Dell and they couldn't fix it so they are going to send a tech to replace or something, just seeing if anyone could help.

    thanks

For this type of problem, the place to start is the Device Manager. Go to Control Panel and then find the Device Manager. From there, find you CD/DVD drive and double click it.

The window that then comes up will tell you if it notices any problems.

Also find out if the drive recognize regular DVDs all the time

Have you tried DVD+R's? Also, you can run the Nero Drive Info tool to see what the drive they gave you actually supports.

    Details.. http://force_aspi_18.w.interia.pl/

    Installation

Simply extract the .zip file to a directory somewhere. Open a Command Prompt and run the appropriate .BAT file(s) as required.
    Usage and Instructions

Here is a brief description of what each script does.

    1. instASPI

Installs the latest, 4.71.2, Adaptec ASPI layer on Win9x, WinME, WinNT, Win2K and WinXP. Any existing ASPI Layers will be overwritten.

    2. dumpASPI

Creates a backup of your existing ASPI layer, or parts thereof. Some Win32 operating systems do not have an ASPI layer, in this situation you will create an empty backup.

    3. restASPI

Restores the ASPI layer backup created with 'dumpASPI'. WARNING! If your ASPI backp is empty this will completely erase your currently installed ASPI layer.

    4. killASPI

This will completely remove your currently installed ASPI layer.

    5. killDUMP

The deletes your dumped ASPI layer.

I would recommend that you use ForceASPI in the following way...

    * Run dumpASPI to backup your current ASPI layer
    * Run instASPI to install the new ASPI layer
    * Reboot your PC
    * Run aspichk to see if everything worked OK

    aspichk.exe

aspichk.exe is a tool provided by Adpatec to report what version of the ASPI Layer you have installed and checks if everything is working OK. To test your ASPI Layer with aspichk.exe

I don't see any reason to use a DVD-R or a DVD-RW discs. They are old generation discs and are used for burning DVDs to play on old generation DVD players. Stick with DVD+R or DVD+RW whenever possible.

All supplied DVD drive with Dell XPS M1330 can burn DVD-R and DVD-RW discs. You have a driver conflict. Please stick to drivers from here for optimal performance and full functionality of all devices.
