I've just unpacked a new i9300 and it is just like another one I have experience with in that DVD playback is unusually dark. No other display, like a photo editor or the desktop etc. seems to be too dark. I am now directly comparing a full screen on-PC movie to a TV display using the SVideo out and the TV display is adequately bright for dark/night scenes, unlike the movie on screen. This is the same on most of the PC DVD player software that I have.

I have VLan which allows me to change the brightness but I still wonder how this darkness can be. Do other I9300 owners experience the same problem? Where might I look to solve this?

first place to look: is the screen brightness all the way up?

No, it's at the default brightness. As I said, this is adequate for everything else.

It is the DVD playback that is dark relative to everything else.
