I upgraded to Windows Vista 64-bit and now I have noticed that my DVD drive is not showing up in Explorer. The drive is showing in Device Manager and if I go into Computer Managment and Disk Management I can even open the drive in explorer from there. However, I can't open the drive in the DVD burning software that I like to use because it is not in its spot in explorer. Has anyone else experienced this? The drive still plays DVDs and is recognized by other programs. If someone could please provide any solution I would be eternally grateful.

Yes I did. I heard from somebody that this may have been caused by the program TweakVI. Has anyone had a similar experience with that program? I have since deleted it but I really would like to be able to see my drives.

If I reinstall windows will all my tweaks be lost?

    Yes.

You could try reinstalling TweakUI, and see if you can get the drive back. :p

    i had a problem w/ a dell desktop b4 like this

never knew why, but I could go into the driver properties, delete the driver, reboot(don't reinstall driver) and when it boots up, it will find the best driver on your system for the dvd.

I have no idea why this always corrected the problem, but it did. Then eventually, it just sorted itself out......

But back up the driver first, just in case.......

I reinstalled TweakVi and fixed it. Then I promptly uninstalled it again. Won't ever be using that program again.

    Thanks guys.

Sometimes registry settings like lowerfilters and upperfilters get corrupted, and the easiest way to attempt to fix that is to uninstall/reinstall the drive. Other times you need to manually remove those filters from the registry
