Hey all...upgraded the DVD drive firmware in my Studio 1535 last week with the D600 A05 version...but since then, it randomly tries to eject a DVD even when there's nothing in there :S

It usually tries 4 or 5 times before giving up. I can't pinpoint why/when it happens, except maybe when there's an update for windows.

    Anyone else experiencing this?

Does this only happen when you boot up the laptop? If so, it's a pretty common issue. Ask Dell to replace your touch-sensitive hinge cover.

Hmm no not really..it has happened in the middle of the day (when the laptop's already been on for hours)

I really hate calling dell tech support because they give stupid advice...like reinstall the BIOS even though you have the latest version and even though the problem will have nothing to do with the BIOS.

In that case, that's pretty weird. Have them replace the DVD drive and the touch panel.

Ok turns out that it does happen on boot up! Worried it will eventually damage the drive.

How would I explain this to Dell? Just say that the DVD drive keeps trying to eject when I boot up the laptop?

Yeah, they should know what you're talking about; it's a fairly common issue with the Studio 1535, 1536, and 1537.

Mine does that crap too. Just another Studio idiosyncrasy.
