Okay, This is my latest E1505 anomaly... I've ripped and converted a few DVDs using FairUseWizard for use on my Palm LifeDrive. Today I was trying to do the same, and it got to about 60% done, and locked up... Ever since, when I try to rip a DVD it brings the system to a crawl and instead of taking 25 - 40 minutes for the rip process, it now takes over an hour! It even did this wit DVDFab Decrypter, so it's not a FUW2 issue. It's like the DVD drive is now taking away the dual core functionality. It makes no sense to me. Why would this have just started? I've tried fumbling with BIOS settings, and even flashed it a couple of times (A03). I also went into device manager and "uninstalled" it, then let windows find it again... no help. Any ideas what would make this happen? I hate to admit it, but I'm thinking of a return... I really love this computer when it's working, man is it fast! But I don't know if my Windows is screwed up, or the Hardware, but sheesh, enough is enough... Please help, any help will be more than greatly appreciated!

Perhaps there is some copy protection afoot. It is starting to become more common on DVDs. Can you rip the disc in another drive? I have never used FairUseWizard. I'd recommend DVDFab.
-
DVDFab does the same thing, and before it messed up, it would rip any DVD in about 25 - 40 minutes. I had started ripping this one at 5:45 ish, and when I got out of the shower ~ 6 ish, it was over 50% complete, but just halted. As a matter of fact, one of the ones I tried I had previously ripped on a slower desktop in about 25 minutes, so...
Later I also got a blue screen telling me some hardware driver was messed up. -
Read my suggestions in this thread... If you BSOD - might be related.

At the very least, you'll be able to rule one more possible cause out... -
I'll check that out. Thanks.. BTW, what is BSOD?
-
BSOD = Ble Screen Of Death
-
Oh, duh! Thanks

Perhaps deleting the ide drivers will help. Windows will find and re-install them when rebooted. A firmware update may help as well.
-
Where do I do these things zazonz?
-
Okay, found the IDE drivers... How would I get a Firmware update?
-
Oh man, Thank you guys so much! That's exactly what it was! I don't know what PIO of UDMA are, but it was stuck in PIO and deleting / reinstalling IDE drivers did the trick! Rep points all around!!! Thanks so much!
-
Thats great news! Congrats on fixing it! Better than having to call India... eh?
-
Definitely! One more question... I tried to use it again, but it crashed, then when I went back to the settings, it said PIO only. Any idea why this happened?
-
I believe it was a smudged disk! Wiped it clean (should've checked sooner) and all is fine again!
-
I would look on Dell's site or possibly the drive manufacturer's site. What drive is it?
-
Thanks zazonz, it's all better now. The disk was smudged, and it kept corrupting the drivers. I deleted the drivers (IDE) restarted windows, wiped the disk clean, voila! All good. Thanks again!
DVD Drive brings E1505 to a CRAWL. Any Ideas?
