I just bought a B130 that has a DVD/CD-RW. I'm happy with the laptop for what I paid but my wife and I were watching a movie tonight and about midway through it started skipping as if there was a smudge or scratch on it. I looked and there wasn't. I put it in my other laptop and my desktop and the movie worked great in both. The DVD/CD-RW drive was also making some loud funky noises sort of like clunking sounds when it was messing up. Then I restarted the B130 and the movie played ok. Since it is not the disc it seems the laptop was overloaded in some way since it did ok when I restarted it. This one has 512 mb ram and the 1.5 Ghz Celeron. Anyone have any ideas what would cause this. I know that if I call Dell they will just say that it was the disc. Oh yeah DMA is turned on.

Perhaps the disc was seated incorrectly.

If your dvd/cdrw brand is TSST, yes, it is noisy.

This is more than an issue of the DVD not being seated correctly since we watched half the movie before problems started. I did let it heat up quite a bit. Could that be the problem? If the vent underneath is covered from laying on a bed, would that do it?

If you look in the ASUS forums I posted a thread about my TSST drive that I just sent to asus. I've got two notebooks (See sig) both with identical drives and the one sounded like some of the grears were missing while writing CD's and only while writing CD's. I'm 99% sure its the drives fault. I've also tried many different brands of disks and even a format, but nothings worked so off to service it went. :)

If a laptop overheats, could it cause these kinds of problems? Would this have been the processor messing up or the drive? I'm going to put it on a flat surface and play movies tonight and see what happens.
