Wondering why my DELL Inspiron 6400 makes such a loud cd/dvd drive noise on certain CDs, its brand new. It doesnt do it for games, like warcraft or starcraft...etc...but when i put in a data mp3 cd and tried to copy it to the hard drive. It makes this really loud noise

ANYTHING I CAN DO TO STOP IT??

I don't think it's bad for your computer though. My drive has been doing that since I bought my notebook but it's still working. Did your Dell come with some sort of application that would let you control drive speeds? This would eliminate the noise.

There are some 3rd party tools that let you set the maximum data transfer rate and rotation speed. Do a google search.
