I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 9300 and decided to format it before really starting to use it for the reasons everyone else lists. I thought to make a backup of the drivers I'd need, but assumed I'd have the programs on CD to reinstall later as needed. Last week I tried to play a movie for the first time and found that Windows Media Player needed a DVD codec in order to play DVDs. (I got a free codec from the so I can play movies, but I'd like to have whatever software Dell intended me to use.) I also realized that while I am using my copy of Nero to make CDs and DVDs, the system likely came with some software to do that too, which seems to be missing from my CD set.

I called Dell and they told me they'd send the software, but what I got was a (2nd) copy of Windows XP Home, and the same Dell CDs I already had that don't seem to include any DVD / CD-RW software. Can any I9300 owners tell me what's supposed to be loaded with my notebook (I didn't pay for any extra software), so I can specifically request the CD(s) from Dell? Thanks in advance!

You need to request Cyberlink PowerDVD (dvd decoder) and Sonic RecordNow. Dell will send them to you for free.

Personally I would just stick with Nero and forget about Sonic.

It's too late for you but there isalso some way to burn a disk yourself. I never was able to do this as I uninstalled Sonic before I realized this was there. I never was able to birn this disk. Dell ended up sending me the disks but none of them are this disk. I wish someone would post an iso of it somewhere.

I have Nero Ultra Edition, works great. I also use NTI DVD Maker 7 for DVD's, which is simple, but gets the job done ;) .

CyberLink PowerDVD 5 (the latest version is 6) is excellent as well.

Definitely call Dell and have them send you a copy of PowerDVD!

I like CDBurnerXP too, but there are a few things it is not as well as Nero at like converting .mp3s on the fly and it cannot burn a DVD-Video. Since you can get an OEM Copy of Nero on eBay for $10 or less, it is hard to pass up. There has supposed to have been a new version of CDBurnerXP since like May, but it isn't here yet. Maybe the new version will address some of these issues.

I believe it is in the dell menu somewhere. It all went away for me so I never saw it.
