Just recieved my Dell XPSM1330 and I would first of like to say that the whine is not THAT bad. lol. anyway I have been usng for an hour now an I do not see a reason to clean install. There are next to none Bloatware- I havent Noticed any that were completly useless- One thing that had me tripping though ,was the fact that my Drive D (Recovery) was already half-full! Like what the hell man!?
Could that be a reason for me to clean intall? Help me out!? lol

PS: So far I love the Laptop- No build quality defect- very small whine barely noticable imo and perfect screen (LED) I'm already in Love

If your happy with your system as you received it, then so be it. That is great. You might consider, however, my tweaking thread below and the 'Clean Install' is always there just in case you get a little ambitious.

Quite frankly, its more of a pride thing. If you arent going to use all the space who cares right? On the other hand, many of us like to have a system that 'belongs to us and not the manufacturer'. So...we choose to do a clean install which frees us of the unnecessary emergency recovery, registry entries put there by the manufacturer, bloatware that includes all the trial programs as well as the 'safe settings' utilized by the manufacturer. By safe, I mean they probably go a bit overboard to ensure, with all that junk, nothing crashes.

A good example of this lies in the size of the pagefile which can be reduced by 1-3 Gb depending on how much RAM you have installed.

I always advise the newbie to get a program such as Acronis Disk Backup which will allow you to make a bootable backup of your system as it is right now. This is a 15 day trial program that creates a dvd backup which has no time stamp.

Once this is created, rip your system apart and make it your own.

What is the total size of the D drive ? If it is 10GB and half of that is only 5GB, which is nothing compared to the total size of your HDD, right ?
