I ordered a 640m last week. I was informed that DHL lost my package. How do i go about this? Is there any compensation i can get from dell for this?
-
Surely you should get compensation from DHL, they are responsible for the package.
Phone them ASAP. -
Should I ask compensation from DHL or Dell?
-
DHL....they lost the package not Dell.

Who do you think? Dell isnt responsible for DHL's mistakes. If you get your package and it turns out to be a bad unit, you wouldnt call DHL to sort things out would you? I swear its a disease in these forums, DHL screwed up, so you think Dell should give you some loot, Dell didnt make the mistake and owes you nothing, all the posts about getting compensation ( usally for simple mistakes that sometimes arent even on dells end) are really getting to me, in some cases throwing someone a bone is a good thing, but now everybody wants something, and its not free, all the stuff that gets given goes right back in the form of higher prices and lower quality support.
In your case have you contacted Dell about the lost shipment? I had that problem once, and they immediately built and shipped a replacement. -
As customers of Dell, we run the assumption that Dell will do everything necessary to deliver their product (in good condition). The delivery of their product is still part of their customer service and not solely the carriers'.
With regards to your analogy, it doesn't apply to this situation since the problem is on the product and not in the delivery of the product. If its a bad unit then logic will dictate that you should call Dell. But if there's a problem with the delivery or loss in transit, Dell and DHL have a shared responsibility over it. For as long as the package has not been received by the customer, the responsibility should rest on both Dell and DHL. DHL is a subcontractor of Dell for their delivery service, so technically the delivery is still part of Dell's business process.
And you say that these things are getting to you when you yourself contacted Dell for a lost shipment. Why'd you have to contact Dell when you think that it's the carrier's fault? You should have bombarded your carrier with complaints and not Dell if this was your point of view.
All I wanted was any compensation for all the trouble it caused me. Anyone is entitled for a compensation for a loss through a fault not of their own. Don't accuse me of trying to get free stuff. All I want is for this shipment to get to me asap and in good condition.
It's a right for every customer to demand any sort of compensation for any inconvenience or loss from the product seller/manufacturer. -

I had a choice between UPS/FEDEX/DHL or freight. Dell is not responsible for DHL's mistakes, if you want to look at it that way then its your fault for choosing DELL in the first place, so go compensate yourself. Now that thats out of the way you should contact both companies and make sure the problem is being addressed and both componies are on the same page, in my case Dell went to work right away getting me a new machine, the day it was shipped my original package turned up, and all was well, with no need to demand for anything, seriously you should focus more on getting what you ordered before trying to wring out freebies.

legally speaking, shipper is not responsible for carrier's fault provided that he (dell) made a reasonable contract. therefore you have to seek indemnity from dhl, not from dell. However, you may contact dell and they may choose to replace your unit due to the commercial relation between them and dhl.

I have no qualms with Dell since they've already placed a replacement order. Everything's alright as far as their end is concerned. My problem now is with DHL since they lost my package.

There really isnt anything you can do with DHL, aside from not using them, I would contact DELL CS and demand a different carrier be used if you havent done so already. Dell will have to file a claim with DHL to make up for their loss, you cant really do anything as it is still technically Dells property until you accept delivery. I've had bad experiences with all the major shipping companies, but DHL has been by far the worst for me, I avoid them whenever possible. Good luck with the replacement.
-
That's exactly what I meant that's why I was insisting that Dell still had partial responsibility on the package since it is still, technically speaking, Dell's property until I accept it.
Anyway, that would be a good idea. I'll make sure they don't use DHL to ship the replacement. -
Call DELL, even though DHL is to blame, as others have already pointed out there is nothing you can do about it. Since you asked DELL to ship the unit and you don't have any dealings with the courier, you should call DELL.
I think DHL will have to compensate to DELL, there has to be some sort of an insurance against lost packages, but you don't have to worry about that . -

Ah, sorry, I suppose I misunderstood, there have been numerous threads about trying to wrangle "compensation" (free stuff) out of Dell, and usually for absurd reasons and things completely outside their control, such as being put on hold for five minutes, vista incorrectly naming a piece of hardware etc, I thought you were were doing the same, sometimes compensation is due, but in this case you can hardly fault Dell for DHL's screw up, Dell is in the system building business , not the shipping buis. Glad you got it sorted out. -
Not a problem Iceman0124! Thanks for the advice. I've emailed Dell to make sure my replacement won't be shipped by DHL. What's up with this DHL people? Are they not that reliable? I heard the same problem from my friend. I thought all the while that they were reliable since this is my first time to have them as my carrier. I had UPS the last time I purchased from Dell and they delivered my package on the estimated delivery date.
Was your carrier DHL as well when you lost your order?
I've emailed DHL but they refuse to reply. What an a**! -
I could not resist.. may have found your package?

This is simple. Call Dell and they will send you another system. They will get their money back from DHL.

Actually it was FEDEX that misplaced my package, DHL just leaves my packages outside by the community mailboxes of my apartment building in not the nicest part of town and forges my signature. With high dollar items I like to either get them shipped to work, or use UPS and have the packages held at the hub and pick them up myself.
