So I live in an apartment and someone signed for my Inspiron 1420 (delivered via DHL) and it wasn't me who signed for it. DHL says they don't have it either.

They're trying to contact the driver. It says the packaged was delivered to a receptionist (which we dont have).

DHL is probably the worst freaking courier on this planet. I have had to deal with them many times on the sending and receiving end, and not once have they managed to do something right the first time.

When I see a DHL truck pull up to my business I just want to shoot myself in the head, I know it will be far less painful in the long run.

:) but seriously, im sure DHL just upgraded you to NEXT DAY SHIPPING on a new machine.

too bad you have to wait another month (dell will probably get it to 2 weeks)

I agree that DHL is the worst shipping company ever! I'm home everytime they come here and they never knock they just leave my package in the driveway (they don't even come up to the door). The only way I know they've been here is because my dog barks as the van is speeding away...

Although I've had only 1 delievery with DHL, I just didn't like them for some reason. I don't like their tracking system.

I personally love having UPS as my carrier. I think their tracking system is the best and most accurate at all times. I guess Fedex also.

I've had several packages shipped via DHL show on the tracking website as delivered, sometimes to a different address, or even city, and then be delivered to me the next day. Of course, I freaked out in the meantime..........!

id settle for UPS or DHL over crummy fedex anyday.

    those people have some issues.

they lost a car bumper for my g6, and then preceeded to tell me it wasnt their problem. it showed up a week later, looked like it was kicked across country

According to DHL, they "fixed the problem." They said it was all a mistake and that the driver got it back from the signer [whoever the heck that was], but never updated the system, and as of 6:00pm or so was headed back to the DHL warehouse with my 1420. I said screw it, "I'm gonna pick it up on Friday."

So now I'm curious whose signature he got, and who that non-existent receptionist is. They all need to get on the same page with their tracking.

In addition, i'm checking the tracking RIGHT NOW (9:15pm) and it still hasn't updated with new info saying that the package is back at their warehouse/facilities. Hopefully it's there when I attempt to pick it up on Friday.

Hey do you think someone signed the thing thinking it was something else and that it was actually for them? Then they realized that computer wasn't theirs and gave it back to DHL? Although that seems unreal, you never know.

I know they ask if you are Mr/Mrs "____" before you sign, but maybe the DHL deliever didn't ask.

I would file a complaint with DHL about them delivering to the wrong person and temporarily losing the package. As a matter of fact I would give them hell about it. Even more if the box was opened. I would demand they replace it immediately because the contents were tamperred with by someone they incorrectly delivered and left the item with.

UPS screws up also. I sold a $600 phone on Ebay and they delivered it to an apartment, but wrong apartment number. The driver mixed up his packages, and my buyer got something else. UPS didnt have a signature confirmation since the packages mixed up, someone signed for the wrong one. Driver has no idea who he gave what. Now I have a dispute and buyer demanding $600 from me because UPS messed up. UPS says no signature they arent responsible. Its because the driver mixed up everything, but they arent admitting that. The package required a sig but was left on buyers doorstep.

I've always had good experiences with UPS. Never had a real problem with them delivering packages, but when you get a box from Newegg that looks like it's been through hell, you get worried for a moment. Thank god for protective packaging, though, haha. I think with DHL (or any delivery company) the main thing is whether or not your driver is good. The DHL guy that delivers to my area is a nice guy and will even have a nice convo with you in the few seconds it takes for you to sign a package.

Personally I would email or call Dell customer care and let them know about this. They can make a record about it and if something happens in the future with this driver involving someone else they may be able to take action. I know it may not effect you but the more people who know the better off everyone will be!

Enjoy the 1420 when you get it!

Man, I'm sorry that that happened to you. How is UPS not taking the blame for it when they don't have signature though? Don't they know when the item is an expensive item so that they can get the signature? Also if you don't sign it, then it's their responsibility to keep the package and to see if you are present at your house for the next couple days. If they try 3 times to deliver and have no luck with a signature, then they ship your item back to the company. If I were you, I would call up UPS and demand for them to buy you that same exact phone and ship it straight to the guy who you sold it to.

It sound very possible. Something simular happened to me once. I was expecting a package and someone delivered one and asked me to sign. I did look at it briefly, it was my street name. When I opened the package I realised right away that it wasn't mine. I took a look at the address again and it was different name and different house number. Just because I was expecting a package, I didn't pay attention to it before. Anyway, I did close the package again and made sure it got to the real owner.

i think the key problem now adays is the drivers, any other problem its just lost.

drivers can be good or bad, no matter what company.

Ok, now I said I have had no problems with DHL before but I didn't really like them... now I really don't like them. I was supposed to have my laptop delivered today, and on the tracking info, it said that at 2:00 AM it was "In Transit" from a place that is 8 hours away from my home. So I thought "okay so around 12-1ish I should be getting my laptop". Well, I check it this morning at around 10, and it now says 9:03 AM - In Transit FROM THE SAME LOCATION! Then at 9:40 it says "Processed at DHL Location" FROM THE SAME LOCATION (the one 8 hours away from my house). I called DHL and they said I will be getting it tomorrow, most likely. Now I really don't like DHL. I was looking forward to using that laptop today...

Screenshot Here. Also they edited out the 2:00 AM "In Transit", I swear they had it when I checked.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I emailed my guy from Dell and told him what was up, just like someone suggested. So now it's on the records that I haven't been delivered my package. Hopefully the clock is not ticking for that 21 day return policy just yet. But with my luck it probably is. So hopefully the computer is just fine.

I attached a screen shot of the DHL tracking system for all you curious folks. It makes my stomach feel weird to still see "Shipment Delivered" when I dont have it yet =\
