Ok, Vista is out, DELL is shipping IT with some systems (Inspiron 6400). But it doesn’t say anywhere if it’s 32 or 64 bit. You can choose between Home Premium and Business and that’s it!?!
I know when getting an OEM Vista (DELL) you only get x32 OR x64 (not both like Retail Vista), so which one is DELL shipping?

    Hmmm...
You can configure a XPS Laptop with 4 Gigs of ram, they have to ship Vista x64 or all that ram is useless (not to mention 32bit Vista can only acces 3 Gigs).

Vista32 has the same RAM limitations as XP...you'll only be able to use 3.25-3.5GB of RAM. It's because some system resources have to share that 32bit (aka 4GB) addressing space so not all the RAM 'cells' have addresses.

I'm sorry, but this is really stupid...HP only sells Vista32, Dell only sells Vista32, AAARRRGGGHHH!!!

Vista 32-bit will increase compatibility so I can see where they go with that but they should provide media to go either way and get on the case of providing drivers for both ends. Otherwise people are going to be pretty pissed. Especially since this mean that the customer isn't using the processor to its full potential.

Maybe this is not down to the manufacturer's choice of choosing which type of Vista to supply (32bit or 64bit) but Microsoft's choice.... think about how much more money Microsoft can make if you switch Vista from 32 bit (using the included OS when you purchase your system) to a 64 bit (where you'll have to buy another set of OS just for that)!
