When a company says its going to simplify its prices and give its customers a better value for their money you should always be on the alert .

I just priced an Inspiron e1705 that was 1250$ with the 750$ coupon deals , now its about 2400$ .

One can argue a few bucks here and there ( it depends on the setup , upgrades etc. ) but the bottom line is ,

You are getting a worse deal then before .

I agree. THe best place to get a dell now is at the outlet. If anyone noticed there are not many notebooks in the delloutlet anymore during the daytime like 4:00 est

I expected them to wipe out the good coupons before they released Merom systems, but I didn't see this coming. Glad I got my E1505 at the end of May...

Dell did say they were going to phase out the coupons by the end of this year. I think Dell might lower their prices a little once they see people aren't going to accept the huge price increase, otherwise, they won't be able to compete with makers like HP and Toshiba.

EDIT: What I'm thinking they'll probably do is just have sporradic huge savings deals on their notebooks, like their 10 Days of Deals, but with bigger savings.

I just priced mine, and it went up about $200 from the 4th week of July. That's not too bad.

my dad got a 1505 a few weeks ago.

today, for $150 more, he would get:

    1. double the ram (512 to 1 GB)
    2. dvd drive upgrade (dvd player to dvd burner)
    3. "free" printer
    4. lcd upgrade to truelife
    5. double the HD space (60 to 120 GB drive)

it's a little more out of pocket, but sounds like he would get waaaaay more bang for his buck if he bought now instead of previously

also, if you use the coupons here (20% of 999), it would only be $100 more, not $150.

sounds like a great deal to me.

My post was based only on comparing the e1705 , so it might not be the case with other models .

    Core duo 2.0 Ghz , 2 GB 533 , 100GB HD , 7900GS , DVD multi , wifi + bt + 200$ worth of accessories = 2000$ - 750$ = was 1250$ , you are welcomed to price it now .

I don't see any justification for a price hike since the models are the same old designs/specs . Along with the merom upcoming and the screen quality , that "old" design was the reason why I didn't order and I don't regret it .

My guess is that DELL is trying to cash on the "back to school" crowd , after which we are back to coupons or that prices will simply drop to even lower levels then todays .

The loss in savings has only a large affect on expensive systems. The thousand dollar ones wouldnt save that much money with the deals compared to without. However my system was supposed to be 2800 with just about everything you could buy, when i bought it before the new pricing I paid 1600, if I bought it now i'd still pay like 2500ish.
