I'm in the market for this laptop, but the heat scares me. Sony VAIO SZ's run cooler, but what's "cool" and what's "hot"?? How long does it take until the palm rests are REALLY WARM? Thanks for any help...

I have an M1530, so I assume it's the same: the palm rests never get hot (although you can get a lovely tingly feeling if you touch something metal :) ). The only place that gets hot is the bottom left front, where the hard drive is.

The palm rest on my m1330 doesn't get hot. Bottom middle's where it's heating up.

And MikeyMike01's spot on with that tingling sensation on the palm rest, which I only get when it is plugged in.

Laptop coolers are really essential in my book, especially when using it as a desktop replacement at home.

laptop coolers are a good idea in theory, but they add bulk and weight.

I want to enjoy my laptop's anorexic lines - god knows I paid enough for the privilege!

It is not the same. The M1530 has a much better cooling system for the video card.

I used to have an M1330 with the Geforce card. Currently I have one with the X3100 graphics. Both of them got warm (not hot) palmrests within a few minutes after being turned on (without a cooler), especially on the left side, where the hard drive is. The bottom middle apparently heats up from the wireless card. If you use ethernet, it doesn't get hot there.

They seem to be sending three-prong adapters with the M1330 now, so no more electrical shocks (unless it has some other grounding fault). You may get some vibrations from the hard drive though, whether it's plugged in or not.

About coolers -- In my experience the Zalman did a great job cooling the palmrests and the processor, but didn't do a thing to cool the Nvidia GPU. That's one reason I sent the M1330 with the Geforce card back. I didn't want to become a member of the failing motherboard club described in this thread in a few months.
