    I believe you can use a generic wireless card. However, have you tried a different or more dependable wireless network? Maybe its the network, not the card.

    I would take a look at the Gigabyte GN-WI06N-RH. It is an Atheros 5008 based 3 antenna 802.11n mini PCI-e card.     A lot of people reccomend this card for it's compatability with most of the new N routers. They use the Atheros chipset as well.

    I am actually waiting on one I ordered to come. Will let you know how it goes. I have 4 N routers to test it with.
