I bought DELL Studio 1555 last month.
I immediately noticed after working sometimes the touchpad area, specially the right hand top corner becomes alarmingly hot and I feel burning sensation on my finger tips.

It is the area where WLAN.WPAN,WI-LAN are present. There is also an Intel chipset, perhaps IO controller.

I immediately called DELL technical support and they sent me the DELL engineer. After monitoring the system for sometimes he decided to replace the motherboard, heat sink, fan assembly and thermal pad.
After replacement I am finding the scenario haven't changed and this time along with touchpad the mid area of keyboard is also getting warm.
I am really frustrated. The engineer also agreed that replacing parts didn't help at all.
Please advice me what to do.

    Thanks in advance.

To be honest, that's just how the notebook is going to be. You can't change how a notebook is thermally designed. I mean, if you think Studios are hot then well, I don't think laptops in general would be suited for your use.

Consider yourself lucky you don't have a DV5t. It'll burn through your lap.

Not much to do, you're cramming lots of powerful parts in a 1-2inch thick chassis, there's bound to be heat dissipation through the top as well as other places.

Only thing to do is take the usual cooling steps for a laptop i.e.
    - undervolt your CPU
    - clean your vents regularly
    - acquire a cooling pad

Hi guys...I got my Studio yesterday and I must say that while it is an excellent laptop the hot touchpad is a MAJOR issue for me...it's not just a little amount of heat on the touchpad...my fingers are BURNING if I use the touchpad though the laptop is pretty cool otherwise...any suggestions? Should I call Dell?

Warm is one thing, burning is completely different. Have them replace your heatsink and thermal interface pads.

I've had my 1555 for several weeks now mine will get warm after a few hours but not what I would call hot, it doesn't bother me. What really bothers me about using a touchpad is that sometimes it will register a click when I don't want a click (like over an ad) I've heard this can cause spyware to download automatically. This is why I want to get a mouse to hook up.

Use the TouchCheck feature in the Dell Touchpad settings. This allows the system to recognize an accidental touch as opposed to a deliberate movement, and ignore accidental clicks. It works pretty well so far.

I also had heat problem on my touchpad. So i called dell and they told me that they had never had this problem before. First the dell peerson asked me to download the driver for two of my software ( I guess just to see if its hardware or software problem). Then they said that i need to ship this system to a place called flextronic global services..

So i plan to send my laptop back and see what happens.. Hopefully the heat problem will be fixed.

The Studio 1555 uses a Synaptics touchpad. You could also try the drivers from Synaptics. They don't have Dell's fancy user interface but I think they have a lot more tweaking options.

    1) Please check whether the laptop fan is running I don't even hear mine running.
    2) The touch gets hot for me when I close my lid and the computer is not sleeping.
    3) Buy a bluetooth mouse

It's just how the lappy is made, bad cooling design.
just get a cooling pad to help, doesn't cost much and as someone said, be happy it's only the touchpad , while playing in a DV5 (HP's Dell 1555 Equivalent,Cpu can go as high as 80 degrees :/

    Hello Vector 12
The cooling side of the laptop is indeed poor - such a letdown.

The problem is that the touchpad IS hot. My studio 1555 laptop is not for me, it´s for my wife. She won´t be using a mouse - hence everytime she uses it she´ll be using the touchpad - very hot fingers! I couldn´t care less if the speakers are hot......

Anyway I´ve got a few more days to decide whether to return it, or go for a repair (still awaiting response from Dell Spain). Just to clarify I think the laptop is a great machine - just a shame about the heat issues that I and a few others are having.

I own a Dell Inspiron Mini 9 and I experience the same overheating onthe touchpad. It'll cause me to not be able to use the touchpad because of the extreme heat. Dell changed the keyboard, touchpad and motherboard and I yet I still feel it is getting just as hot and they just "fixed" it no more than a week ago.

I use a ZM-NC2000 with my Studio 1555 and it works great and I recommend getting one to help with your heat issues.
