I have the OEM Windows MCE disc, so, I saw no need for the restore partition.

If you do not have the OEM disc, request one from Dell. Also, give them a hard time for not giving it to you in the first place. You paid for it.

I agree with the Count. They (and many other companies) market the restore partition as an easy way to put your computer back to a "fresh out of the box state" and it is any easy way to do that, you don't have to fool with windows, drivers or even any applications. The problem is that it also "restores" a bunch of bloatware and spam along with the rest of the system. Get the OS CD from dell, follow the reformatting guide sticked at the top of the forum, you will get a much faster machine and also reclaim several gigabytes if you decide to delete the restore partition.

I always recommend creating your own restore partition. Use NortonGhost and that couple of gigs of space and save an image of a freshly installed copy of XP to get the same effect and loose the bloatware at the same time.

    Does ghost cost $$$?

Why have a restore partition if you have the OS? I only wipe the drive every 12-18 months or so.

    thnx guys,

    my big question now is:

    IS Partition worth, needed???
Im taking 100GB (7200 RPM), now I don't know if the Paritition is that usefull?
(even though, I have to take Partition together with DELL PC restore)..
Its good for back-up files, but the disadvantage of it, is less space on 1 drive..(for my video's music, games, etc).

Can you guys pls help me??

    Cheers
    Cheng

The Best Choice IMO would be to get the OS Disc from Dell for the extra 10 bucks and Do a fresh format and create a new partition and backup ur OS Partition using Norton Ghost and store those Backup files on the other partition. That way, you'll have a fast way to return to original settings in case anything happens.
It works quite well and keeps the PC fast. Much better than any partition created by the manufacture that'll give back the bloatware after u Use the partition to restore.
