    Hello fellows,

recently i bought this dell m 6400 from ebay (used one) for my CAD WORK AND GAMING . THE laptop is cool with lots of feature but now i feel hardware is dated, as i am facing problem in using latest CAD software and games ,encountering different problems of lag and heating

Present configuration of my system is
    • core 2 Duo p8700
    • 4 gb ram
    • 512mb n-vedia fx 2700 m gpu
    • 160 hdd
NOW i want to update my system hardware as M6400 my choices are

    • AMD A-10 7300 kaveri -processor
    • ATI-1GB DX-11 supporting gpu- please suggest which i can buy
    • ram upgrade- 6gb
    • hdd upgrade-1 tb
    so my question is

can i upgrade my laptop with above specified configuration ?
can i install AMD on same motherboard?
can i install ATI on same motherboard ?

    please provide me your inputs

Of course not. You can only install a Core 2 Quad CPU (I'd suggest QX9300 which overclocks well - e.g. it easily goes from 2.53 to 3.5+ GHz) and a stronger GPU (either Nvidia Quadro FX3700M or Quadro 5000M which dissipate even more heat than your current one or AMD FirePro M7820 which is quite cool actually). The latter two are from the M6500 actually. I've upgraded my old M6400 with the AMD M7820 (from FX3700M) and was very happy with it (it was much faster in games, while barely heating up).

If you have heating problems, you might want to try cleaning up the exhausts first. They usually need this from time to time as they can get clogged with dust and lint.
